Your role in FSC-certification
The aim of this guideline is to encourage YOU - as a stakeholder - to actively address your concerns on FSC-certification.
With this information to hand, and with a better understanding of the FSC-system, the authors aim to improve the mechanisms for dealing with conflicts that arise in FSC-certificates from time to time.
Voice your concerns
If you see a conflict in an FSC-certified forest, we would like to encourage you now, to choose a responsible way of addressing your concerns. If you use the system as it is meant, you have a good opportunity to play a constructive role in the improvement of forest management.
By getting a better understanding of the existing FSC-System you might disagree with some of the existing rules. If this is the case then this document has achieved its second objective.
We want YOU also to be active in developing the FSC itself.
This is a much broader issue and will take even more time and energy than understanding the basics of complaint procedures.
Use the NIs
If you are interested in this issue you should ask for help from an NI in your country, or in a neighbouring country, or from the FSC International Center, on how you can engage yourself more in specific processes. The FSC Membership is a good way to receive information on ongoing processes and stakeholder-consultations and provides you with a powerful voting right. |
